What a product is, and how to create your first one.

What is a product? A product is one thing you sell, such as a walking tour, a boat trip or a three-night stay. Here is what every product is made of. Products and Catalog: what is the difference? The left menu has both Products and Catalog. Products is what you sell yourself. Catalog is what you book from other suppliers. Create your first product Create a product in about a minute. You only need a name to start, and you can fill in the rest afterwards. Draft, active and archived products Every product is draft, active or archived. Only active products can be sold. Here is when to use each one.

Choose the right setup

The few settings that decide how customers pick a date and how many people you can take.

Booking modes: how customers pick a date The booking mode decides what a customer chooses when they buy. Pick the wrong one and the product asks for the wrong things. Families, subtypes, categories and tags Voyant has four ways to classify a product and they do different jobs. Here is which one to use when. Capacity: free sale, limited and on request Capacity mode decides whether Voyant counts places for you, lets you sell without a limit, or asks you to confirm each booking by hand. Set up each type of product

Worked examples for tours, excursions, stays, tickets and transfers.

Set up a day tour A worked example: a three hour guided walking tour that runs on set mornings, with adult, child and infant prices. Set up an excursion or activity A worked example: a short activity such as a cooking class or a sunset sail, sold by the seat at a fixed start time. Set up a stay A worked example: accommodation sold by room and by night. Stays work differently from tours, so read this before you start. Set up an open-dated ticket A worked example: a pass or entry ticket the customer buys now and uses whenever they like. Set up a private transfer A worked example: an airport transfer or private car, priced per vehicle rather than per person. Set up a multi-day itinerary A worked example: a packaged trip that runs over several days, with a day-by-day plan and hotels included.

Booking options and who pays what Options are the choices a customer makes. Traveler types are what each kind of person pays. Together they cover almost all pricing. Add extras to a product Extras are the optional add-ons a customer can tick at checkout, such as hotel pick-up, lunch or equipment hire. Cost prices and margin Record what a product costs you as well as what you sell it for, so your reports can show real profit. Departures and recurring schedules A departure is one dated instance a customer can book. A recurring schedule generates them for you so you do not add each one by hand.
