What is a proposal?

A proposal is a quote you are still negotiating. It becomes a booking only when the customer says yes.

Voyant Support

Somebody emails asking about a long weekend in Berlin for four people. They have not agreed to anything and you have not taken any money.

That is a proposal. A quote you are working on, with a price attached and a customer you are chasing.

Proposal or booking?

  • A proposal is a maybe. Nothing is held, nothing is paid, the price can still change.
  • A booking is a yes. The place is held and money is owed. See What is a booking.

Work in Proposals while the customer is deciding. Move to Bookings once they commit.

What a proposal holds

  • Deal details, such as the value, the stage, and when you expect it to close.
  • The client, meaning the contact and their company if there is one.
  • Line items, which is what the trip includes and what it costs.
  • Versions, which is what you actually send the customer.

Click Proposals in the left menu to see them all.

The New proposal dialog with a title field and a stage selector set to New Inquiry
A proposal starts with just a title and a stage. Everything else is filled in as the conversation develops.
